Easing Into Lotus: Exploring the Path to Padmasana
Dorchester Yoga Centre, Saturday 19 October 10.30 - 12.30
What do you believe is possible in your practice?
For many of us, Padmasana—Lotus Pose—feels elusive. It shows up throughout the Ashtanga Primary Series in 9 full postures and 4 half postures. Even if you’ve achieved Lotus, can you easily access all of these variations? For most, modifications help us move through the practice, but staying in modified versions can keep the full expression of Lotus out of reach. There are safe, effective ways to approach this iconic pose, and also ways that can lead to injury.
In this workshop, I’ll share my personal journey and the exact method I used to heal my knee injury. During the 2020 lockdown, I was practicing up to six hours a day—too much, leading to the dreaded "Ashtanga inner knee" injury. Through mindful exploration, I regained my Lotus within five months, unlocking the hip space needed for Padmasana to fully blossom.
We’ll also explore the full Lotus postures and half Lotus postures in the Primary Series, and how to work with them safely. This workshop is for students of ashtanga—whether you're stuck in a modified cross-legged position or looking to deepen your Lotus practice. While you may not land in full Padmasana right away, you'll learn invaluable techniques to safely open your body, and teachers will gain insights to guide others on this journey.
Let’s create space for growth and discover what’s possible. 🌸
